FOLEY AND SOUND DESIGN FOR VISUAL MEDIA

A SOUND PRODUCTION COURSE FOR QUEERS AND BIPOC

JULY 31 - AUGUST 3

In this four-day intensive workshop, you will learn how to create sound for visual media.

Together we will create a short video with self-recorded foley, sound design, voice-over and music.

CONTENTS

  • Introduction to film sound & post-production

  • Practical work in a professional studio

  • Recording & editing with Pro Tools

  • Foley: Creating sounds and noises for film

  • Voice-over-recording

  • Sound design

  • Editing, premixing and mixing of a finished short film

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Some experience with music production or sound design is required and helpful

  • Pro Tools knowledge is great – but not mandatory. We’ll introduce you to it on-site

  • Please only apply if you’re available for the entire program period:

    July 31st – August 3rd, 2025

    Start: Thursday 3pm – End: Sunday 4pm

  • There will also be one follow-up day for mixing the final pieces on September 28

  • The workshop will be held in English, with German support if needed

The group will be small and intentional – we aim to create a safer space for Queer and BIPOC creatives. You’ll receive a confirmation shortly after the deadline.

COST AND EQUIPMENT

  • Participation is free

  • The software Pro Tools and all studio equipment will be provided

  • You’ll contribute 100 € for shared food & supplies (self-organized catering fund)

  • Travel costs are not covered

FAQs

  • No. All equipment, software (Pro Tools), and studio access will be provide

  • Participation and accommodation (camping on site) are free of charge - thanks to the funding of Musicboard!

    You only need to cover your own travel costs and there will be a fee for food (around 100€).

  • Absolutely. The workshop is designed for people with little or no prior experience. We’ll start from the basics and support you along the way. Experience with music production in Ableton/ FLStudio/ Logic Pro is required and helpful.

  • We try to make the workshop as accessible as possible. Please let us know your access needs in the application form so we can plan accordingly.

  • Mostly in English, with support in German when needed. Let us know your language needs and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.

  • This workshop is specifically for people who are Queer and/or BIPOC. If you’re not part of these communities, we ask you to respect this safer space.

  • An application form will be shared at the end of this page. The group will be small (about 8-10 people), and we aim to create a safer space through intentional selection.
